Dr. Doralyn Dalisay of the University of San Agustin – Center for Chemical Biology and Biotechnology in Iloilo said the painstaking research and development she has been leading at the USA-C2B2 in putting up a library of more than 3,000 bacteria isolates was already bearing fruit with the identification of 38 “lead isolates” for further study and development into at least one super antibiotic drug.

Doralyn joined the 50 marine scientists and researchers from government agencies and universities on the commemoration of the renaming of Benham Rise to Philippine Rise and for embarking on the marine scientific research (MSR) initiatives fully supported by President Rodrigo R. Our research team explored the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site last March 31 to April 7,2018 for scientific undertakings.
Our research paper was awarded 1st prize for the Best Research Poster in Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chemical Sciences (Cluster 3) category during the National Research Council of the Philippines Annual Scientific Convention last March 14, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay, Manila. Doralyn was invited as one of the Plenary Speakers during the 2nd International Conference on Pharmacy Education and Research Network of ASEAN (ASEAN PharmNET 2017) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last November 21-22, 2017. This has provided her with great opportunity to meet ASEAN leaders in Pharmacy Education and Research, discuss collaboration, and share the drug discovery program at University of San Agustin.
Congratulations Edna and Kim, Chuck and Trish for winning the 1st and 2nd Place, respectively, for the Best Poster Presentation Competition (Post Graduate Category) during the 2017 Philippine Society for Microbiology Visayas Scientific Convention last November 9-10, 2017 at University of San Carlos, Cebu City. Well done!
The Gregor Mendel Research Laboratories was visited by the Philippines' national leaders of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato dela Pena, DOST USec for R&D Rowena Cristina Guevara, USec for Regl. Operations Brenda Nazareth-Manzano, and DOST Region 6 Director Engr. Rowen Gelonga last October 27, 2017. They were impressed at how the University of San Agustin S&T research capability was transformed from nil to being competitive in winning national research grants, then made a stir in pushing the frontiers of research in the countryside.
Doralyn was invited as a Speaker at the Research Forum sponsored by National Institutes of Health in University of the Philippines, Manila last October 10, 2017. The Research Forum was attended by scientists, researchers and graduate students from various universities in Manila.
On September 20, 2017, the leaders of Research Institute Triangle, (RTI) International in North Carolina, USA, Dr. Wayne Holden, President and CEO, Mr. Paul Weisenfeld, Executive Vice President, and Dr. Richard Abendan, Partnerships Manager, RTI International made a visit at University of San Agustin, toured our lab facilities and learned more about our fascinating research findings that will help increase the market value of Philippine honey.
Doralyn gave a Plenary Lecture at the 1st Philippine Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PSBMB) Luzon Chapter Symposium in PhilRice Research Institute, Science City of Munoz, Nueva Ecija last August 24-25, 2017.
On August 8, 2017, Dr. Lawrence Ilag, Deputy Chief of Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Development (STRIDE) and his team made a monitoring visit to the Dalisay Lab at University of San Agustin to check on the progress and status of the research grant on Philippine honey. The meeting was also attended by representatives from Maridan Industries, Inc., our industry partner for this project. We had a fruitful meeting and it was very successful!
The Dalisay Lab welcomes Kimberly Tampus and Trisha Alexis Fabrigar. They will be working on marine sediment-derived actinobacteria project funded by NRCP-DOST.
We had an opportunity to conduct hands on LCMS-IT-TOF experiments at Shimadzu Asia Pacific in Singapore last July 24-28, 2017 for a project funded by USAID STRIDE on Philippine honey. This research undertaking is through a collaboration with Shimadzu Asia Pacific that was established by Dr. Jonel P. Saludes, AVP for Research of University of San Agustin. The formal partnership with Shimadzu Asia Pacific was executed through an MOU signed in March 2017.
Aica Suarez and April Tirador presented our research about Philippine Honey at the 36th Annual Philippine American Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE) Meeting and Symposium held in Manila Hotel on July 14-15, 2017. The research work was presented in oral and poster presentations. Keep up the good work!
Edna Sabido and Chuck Tenebro presented our research at the 46th Philippine Society for Microbiology National Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting at One Esplanade, Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Manila on July 6-7, 2017. The research posters highlighted the isolation of marine sediment derived Actinobacteria and their antibiotic activities. Congratulations for the awesome research posters!

USAID STRIDE team had their monitoring visit and meeting with research team from USA and Maridan Industries Inc. to assess the progress of the research project last February 16, 2017 at the Gregor Mendel Research Laboratories.
Our research work on novel potent anti-tuberculosis compounds (aminorifamycins and sporalactams) from marine sediment-derived bacteria was published in Organic Letters on February 6, 2017.

Doralyn (Principal Investigator) recently received a $100,000 USD (4.7 M Php) research grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Development (STRIDE) program through its Collaborative Applied Research with industry (CARWIN) grant funding mechanism. Co-investigators of this grant are Dr. Jonel P. Saludes (University of San Agustin) and Mr. Jan Vincent N. Sollesta (Maridan Industries, Inc.). November 29, 2016.
Doralyn was one of the Invited Speakers at the Taiwan's 31st Symposium on Natural Products and Symposium on Pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Medicine at National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, last October 14-15, 2016.
